The term 'accident proneness' is widely used and means that certain individuals are always more likely to sustain an accident than others, even though exposed to equal risk.

This book, which contains the results of an exhaustive investigation into road accidents incurred by bus and trolly-bus drivers in Northern Ireland over a period of four years, presents an alternative hypothesis which is considered to be more realistic in context of road accidents.

After subjecting the data to statistical analysis and conducting clinical examinations of certain drivers, the writers conclude that the validity of the concept of accident proneness is more than doubtful.
