The two main chapters in this report discuss hearing impairment in middle and old age, and the early detection of impairment in children, including otitis media. The particular problems are heavily biased towards issues that research by the author and his colleagues have addressed; the citations are biased in the same way.
This monograph is intended not as a comprehensive academic review but as an illustration of how a field can be advanced by the work of a research institute in it.
