Anaesthetists in particular and all other doctors and administrators concerned with the provision of anaesthetic and surgical services will see outlined the many factors which may be involved in the causation of death in hospital. It is hoped also that this practical example of the profession's interest in standards of medical care in the National Health Service will lead to improvements.
